Do you know what lies between the lines? Between the important issues? Between the disputes? The big words? Or the unbreakable bonds between people?
There’s a gap. A gap between the ‘you’ and the ‘me’. A gap of silence. A gap of distance.
Some thinkers say that it is this gap precisely that makes it even possible to define the ‘me’ and the ‘not-me’. Some others think that it is this distance that makes for 90% of our heartache.
For me this distance, full of silence is a blessing. A blessing upon each other’s presence. Each other’s reality. On each person’s being around me.
Between the links of communication, the shared experience, the shared convictions, the missed arguments and the misunderstandings, there is always this simple gap, elusive of all explanation or simple filler, that allows a new start. Every day, every moment, every instance.
All it does take really, is a quick breath. And silence.
Go out and find that little gap. That moment between your thought and your action. That distance between you and the next person. Find it, savour it. See it. Acknowledge it and the breach it.
